About
I named this musical project after a concept introduced in 1970 by Japanese roboticist Masahiro Mori. The term bukimi no tani describes a psychological phenomenon in which our emotional response to humanlike figures—such as robots or dolls—grows increasingly uneasy as they become more lifelike, yet falling short of true realism. As those artificial creations become more refined, subtle imperfections in their appearance or behavior can evoke feelings of unease or even revulsion. That reaction typically subsides once the likeness achieves a level of realism sufficient to be perceived as genuinely human, rather than a flawed approximation. In English, bukimi no tani is more commonly known as the “uncanny valley.”—Gregory Pare
